Technology - How it's Affecting our Environment

Background:

Being humans, our nature is that we want to control the whole world either politically, economically, ecologically and in each and every way. Every country is fighting with another. Same goes for our battle against the nature. As we believe, we humans are responsible for this world and indulge ourselves in the natural phenomenon either to understand them or manipulate them, this depends on our intentions. Firstly, the source of air pollution is the contaminant secondly all efforts of humans to combat that effect are the sources of air pollution.

Importance:

There is a complex state of affairs behind this whole conflict of technology and nature. The only explanation is the desire to keep up and to retain a certain

lifestyle is an incredible and powerful one, but how many of us are ready to give up on our lifestyle and status quo. Secondly, we refer to technology as an instrument of ease for human beings but the usage of it is widely known to us. For example, nuclear energy was to be treated as a source of zero carbon emission energy but now this technology is used to show superiority, in genocide and exploitation of other countries.

Social Dilemma:

As the saying goes, “when you are not paying for the Product, then you are the product”. So, after keeping this context in mind; we do know that we take environment as granted and keep applying our technology for our own purposes without considering the flaws and damage of our technological system.

As the raw material for the build-up of our technology are being extracted from our environment and later on the waste is disposed-off without treatment, we do not consider the importance of applying some of our resources on environment to protect its originality. So, human beings failed to understand how the natural resources are the core of economy and extracting everything for our own revenue and comfort will seriously damage these resources. This shows how the environment is used as product by the large corporations and countries for power and profit.

Systematic Approach

There is a system of cycle behind every phenomenon, in the case of environment we call it an eco-system and for technology it can be named as techno-system or more appropriately economic system. As, the purpose of technology is to provide ease and raise the capital for the capitalist in this capitalistic economic system, and the system itself sets the boundary and whenever this system clashes with another system consequences would have to be endured by both.

 Conclusion:

As we know the implementation of policy is through the legislation, always. So, it’s not sufficient enough to just prepare the good write-up and hold it back in drawers. As in the book, the new climate war; the author emphasized on the build- up of legislation for the implementation of such policies with harsh penalties. Without the penalties, our policies are just pieces of paper which are being mismanaged and will be mismanaged just as the solid waste of different countries.

Reason to emphasize this whole issue is to spread awareness. Potentially we all are well aware of the impacts of our inclusiveness in the laws of nature and going against them. The phenomenon of thinking globally and acting locally was introduced just because of one reason, that how we can resolve our problems by individual steps and applying them in a wide aspects. Otherwise individual steps are of no benefit if we are not ready to move towards connective and collective approach. We as a human race are facing this issue of technology versus environment in a wider and global aspect and it will affect each and every one of us.
