Google Glass

Introduction

Google glass is also known as Project glass it is brand of smart glasses. It is designed in such a way that its optical head-mounted display is designed in the spare of pair of glasses. These glasses were made to display the information in smartphone but while we it’s very convenient to use no use of hand is required these are made for hand free format. While using the google glass we only have to command with our voice and the wearers communicate with internet no use of hands required. First this glass was developed by Google X and google started selling its prototype so they can qualify glass explorer in US.

Features of Google glass

Camera: The ability of google glass is it has the ability that it can take 5MP photos and it can record the videos in 720p HD videos.

Display: The liquid crystal on silicon is used by the google class, LED illuminated display, field-sequential color system. The display’s LED illumination is first P-polarized after that it shines through the in-coupling polarizing beam splitter. When the panel reflects the light and then it is altered into S-polarization at the active pixel sensor sites. The out-coupling beam splitter which is reflecting the mirror it reflects the light another 45 degree and into the wearers eye.

Touch pad: Touch pad is located on side of the google glass which allows users so they can control the device by swiping through timeline interface which is displayed on the screen. When you slide backward it shows the current events and sliding forward shows past events.

Software used by Google glass

The applications are free in google glass which is developed by the third party. These glasses also use applications of google such as Google maps, Gmail etc. Many developers and many companies built applications for the google glass. It was also stated that there will be no ads while using google glass or they will charge no fees. Google also offered my glass for android and iOS so the user can manage and configure the device. On the other hand google glass is controlled by using voice actions. There are two ways of activating the glass the first one is the wearer looks 30degree up and another is to simply tap the touch pad and say OK glass it will be activated. After activation you can use if you want to take a picture say an action like ‘take a picture’ etc.

Google glass can be used in medicine

In hospitals: The physicians live stream the patient when they visit and they can have the electronic health record of the patients and these records can be saved 15 hours a week and the quality is quite good. This is for focusing on the patients.

In surgical procedures: Google glass was used in Ohio State University during a live surgical procedure. The broadcast surgery can be done while using google glass.

Specifications of different variants

Google glass explorer version 1

• Android 4.4 KitKat is the processor of explorer version 1
• The display size is 640*360 Himax HX7309 LCoS.
• The camera is 5MP and has the video recording capability of 720p.
• It is also supported with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.
• The storage capacity of version is 16 GB with 1 GB RAM.
• The sensors used in are light sensing and proximity sensor.

Google glass explorer version 2

All the other specifications are same as google glass explorer version 1 but the only change made was it was expanded to 2GB RAM.

Google Glass Enterprise Edition

• Many improvements were made in this variant as compared to previous editions in specifications
• The Intel atom processor was added.
• Wi-Fi was changed to Dual band 802.11n/ac
• The GPS was added s to assist the wearer and GLONASS
• The storage capacity was expanded to 32 GB of storage.
• 780 mAh batteries were added in this variant.
• Good sound system was added as Dynamic driver speaker instead of previous one which was bone conduction.

Criticism of using Google Glass

• There were some concerns raised by sources which were regarding the privacy, ethics and etiquette's of using this device in public as it can record videos as well as take pictures without permission of others this was the serious problem of privacy was raised.
• This Google glass can violate the privacy rights as well as can cause security problems.
• People wearing such type of eye wear can identify strangers using facial recognition and the other problem is they can record private conversations of people.
